The Confederation African Football (CAF) has announced a 40 per cent increase in the prize money.
A 40% rise in prize money has been announced by the Confederation African Football (CAF) for the victor of the 2023
Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023), which will take place in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.
The competition has advanced since its 33rd edition in Cameroon, as seen by the growth in prize money.
As it has always been, the largest football governing body in Africa hopes to make the 34th edition unforgettable.
The 34th Africa Cup of Nations champions will take home an incredible $7 million, while the runners-up will take home $4 million.
In addition to the quarterfinalists earning $1.3 million, the third and fourth-place teams will win $2.5 million each.
The winning team’s monetary award was raised by CAF from $4.5 million to $5 million in 2021, while the second-place team took home $2.75 million.
Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties in the championship match to win the tournament for the first time.
Following its public disclosure, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe elucidated the significance of the prize money increase.
He also stressed the advancements that the CAF has made throughout the previous two years.
“We have increased the prize money of the AFCON 2023 winner to USD 7,000,000, which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON prize money.
I am confident that a portion of the prize money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders.
