Ultramodern Tamale International Airport Comes To Life In Stunning Photos

Photos shared by the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia show that the Tamale International Airport will soon be completed.

The projected which began in 2018 is set to be completed soon per the photos sighted by Znewsgh.com.

The Veep took to his Facebook page to reveal that the work is 95% done while sharing some photos.

“The Tamale International Airport is an ultramodern edifice with a separate multipurpose terminal which will serve as a Hajj Terminal. Works are 95% complete and I commend the contractors for the excellent work done,” Dr Bawumia posted on Facebook.

The post garnered a lot of mixed reactions from Ghanaians, while some were praising former President John Dramani Mahama for starting the project, others were also praising the Veep.

According to the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in 2014 September, work started on the upgrade and expansion of the Tamale Airport to International status.

Yen.com.gh reports that the development was in two phases. The first phase involved the upgrade and extension of the runway from 2438m to 3940m, construction of a new Apron and taxilink, rehabilitation of existing apron and the installation of Aeronautical Ground Lighting Systems.

The project was commissioned August 2016 to coincide with the first flight for the 2016 Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca.

The Tamale International Airport (TIA) now serves as an alternative to the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and has the capacity to handle wide body aircraft in the event of emergency at KIA.
