US New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez says he has no intention of stepping down
Three days ago after Bob Menendez was indicted on bribery charges, He says he has no intention of stepping down as he faces what he called “The biggest fight yet”.
A defiant Senator Bob Menendez walked in to face crush of cameras as an accused criminal.
He said “When all the facts are presented, not only will i be exonerated but I will still be New Jersey’s senior senator”
“The allegations levelled against me are just that allegations” He added.
Allegations of an illegal bribery scheme according to the indictment, The New Jersey democrat and his wife took Gold bars, a Mercedes and Piles of cash to help
three New Jersey business men and the Egyptian government.
Menendez explaining the nearly half million dollars in cash prosecutors found stuffed in his jacket pockets and elsewhere around his home.
Menendez over the years, has withdrawn thousands of dollars from his savings account for any emergencies and for his families in Cuba.
Bob Menendez said ” For thirty years, I have withdrawn thousands of dollars in cash from personal savings account which
I have kept for emergencies and because of the history of my family facing confiscation in Cuba”
HIs democratic colleague Senator John Fetterman posed student response “We have an extra flashlight for our home emergencies “
Menendez made no mention of the gold or the Mercedes. The indictment says the couple also accepted
Bribes and as for allegations he passed sensitive informations to the Egyptian government
“My record is clear and consistent for holding Egypt accountable” Bob said.
President Biden has no weighed in yet,
but top New Jersey politicians including the governor and some members of congress are on him to step down
along now with a well-known New York Democrat.
Some colleagues from other states are saying the best Bob could do is to resign and step down
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said “The situation is quite unfortunate but I do believe that is it is the best interests for Senator Menendez to resign”
