GOVERNMENT URGES GOIL TO REDUCE FUEL PRICES

The government after meeting with the Ghana Transport union, has directed the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) to reduce prices of fuel at the pumps, which takes effect on Tuesday, December 7.

Abass Imoro, Head of Communication of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), who revealed this on PM Express with Evans Mensah, on Monday, said the government has also accepted to review taxes on fuel in the mid-year budget review.

He said that they are pleased with the results of the meeting and would need their members to continue work on Tuesday.

Mohammed Abdul Kudus, who is the Communication Manager at the National Petroleum Authority, speaking on the suggested review of the taxes, even if the world prices of petroleum products go on to perforate, consumers are not going to feel the effect when the taxes are reduced.

The Chairman of the Transport Committee in parliament, Mr. Osei Nyarko, said the order to GOIL is indicative, as in the sense that government led by Nana Akufo-Addo is a listening government.

The government said he expects about 15 pesewas reduction by GOIL on Tuesday.
