The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, has said it is not the duty of the lawmakers to decide policy scheme for the executive arms of government.
For that reason, he has asked the legislators not to infuriate the government in the execution of it’s policies. He also asked the government to welcome inputs made by other shareholders, in the 2022 budget statement.
Despite the fact that he had advised the house not to frustrate the government in it’s role of making policies, the administration must also accept other proposals.
He made this statement during the celebration of the Akwasidae Festival on Sunday, December 12.
The Asantehene said, “It is to our good that our representatives in Parliament subjects national budget to the most vigorous scrutiny and to call for changes. Government must always also have the humility to acknowledge and embrace useful inputs from all sources”.

“But our representatives also have to bear in mind that it is not the role of the MP’s to either determine policy for the executive or to frustrate them in performing their legitimate duty”, he added.
Muntaka Mubarak, the Asawase MP on Friday, 3rd December signed a statement saying, “The NDC caucus in Parliament wishes to assure Ghanaians that it will continue to use every legitimate and lawful channel to resist the 1.75% E-levy government is seeking to impose is regressive, punitive and draconian, and that same must be suspended”.
Mr. Muntaka has also said that the minority in parliament has strongly defended this position in Parliament and on social media just to make the government aware of their demand. The government has sought to involve the NDC caucus in a series of discussion following the rejection of the budget on the 26th of November, 2021.
