Bogoso-Appiatse Explosion, the government to commence rebuilding of the destroyed community, the government also through a powerful delegates, led by the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia presented some relief package to the victims of the Thursday 20th January 2022 explosion.
An explosion that took the lives of some 17 people and many injuries, destroyed the houses and the livelihoods of the people of Appiatse, a community of about 200 households, with an estimated 500 structures was reduced to rubbles, by the blast of a mining explosives that was transported to a nearby mining field.
The relief package, include an amount of GHC200,000.00 Cedis, some foods items, toiletries, mosquitoes nets and repellents, students mattresses and detergents for upkeeping of the affected community.
The government also promised for the immediate commencement of rebuilding the damaged houses in the community, and provide all the necessaries supports needed to ensure the affected area is back to fully functional and resume economic activities.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), had contracted the service of caterers to at least prepare three square meals for the displaced community.
In a statement by the Vice President, “The government knows that aside from the provision of the relief items, more needs to be done since you cannot be at the temporary shelter forever.”
“As I went round I have seen many children and other people who require special care. Therefore, we deemed it right to ensure that there is a little fund available for their upkeep.” the Vice President said.
“Much as we would have wished that there was no loss of life, we regret that some residents have lost their lives. We are a responsive government, and that is why the government said we would ensure the reconstruction of the destroyed facilities,”
“We want to assure Nananom and the people that we will rebuild the houses,” the Vice-President stressed.
“We will learn lessons but that will be for later. For now, we want to complete the rescue efforts and focus on how best to take care of the families and the injured,” The Vice President added.

In another development, the Minister of Land and Natural Resources, through a statement signed by it Public Relations at the Ministry, Mr Ibrahim Otabil said, the Minister had asked Inspection Division of the Minerals commission to thoroughly investigate the leading to the incident involving the vehicle transporting the dangerous explosives to the mining site.
He further added that, the investigation was been done in line with the minerals and mining explosives Regulations. 2012 (L.I.2177).
