More than three months after a peace accord that put an end to a deadly battle in the nation’s north, the African Union (AU) urged on Saturday for a “political conversation” between the Ethiopian government and Tigrayan officials.
The monitoring committee for the peace deal met on Friday, with officials of the Ethiopian government, Tigrayan leaders, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in attendance.
As a result of that meeting, a statement was released on Saturday in Addis Ababa (IGAD).
After two years of fighting, the Ethiopian government and the rebels in this northern area of Ethiopia reached a peace accord in Pretoria in November 2022.
The fighting has stopped since the Pretoria deal, and relief deliveries have resumed.
