M H BanseAfter departing Old Trafford last summer, the 36-year-old signed a two-year deal with the La Liga team, but his disastrous season saw him only score five league goals.
The legendary Uruguayan has decided to leave the Mestalla early, and the Spanish team tweeted about his departure on Saturday.
It said, “Thank you for everything [Edinson Cavani]. Mestalla and Valencia will always be your home. Good luck with your new stage.”
Christian, Cavani’s brother, had earlier in the week confirmed the veteran’s intention to return to South America.
He told Football 12, “I have a good feeling that his arrival in Boca will be achieved. This time is different from the others. His return to South America is all more on track.”
According to TYC Sports, the former PSG and Napoli player had to pay almost £1.3 million to end his contract with Valencia.
With his new club, Cavani would complete an illustrious European career that had begun with his 2007 move to Serie A with Palermo.
Prior to joining Manchester United in 2020, Italy and France saw the second-highest goal scorer in Uruguay amass a number of team and individual honours with Napoli and PSG.
Cavani scored 19 goals in 59 games at Old Trafford before leaving for Spain last summer.
