Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has strongly denied speculation that he is ready to walk away from the club, despite a dismal Premier League campaign.

Speaking at a UEFA media briefing ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham on 21 May, Amorim addressed concerns following his emotional remarks after Sunday’s defeat to West Ham.

“I’m far from quitting,” said the Portuguese coach. “I have a clear idea of what needs to be done. If we don’t perform, of course the club will have to make decisions—but that’s normal in football.”

Amorim has managed to guide United to a rare European final, their third since 2011. However, Premier League form has plummeted, with United sitting 16th and heading toward their worst finish in over 50 years.

United’s only league wins in 2025 have come against struggling sides like Ipswich and Leicester.

Despite the poor domestic run, Amorim is determined not to let Europa League success serve as a distraction from deeper issues.

“I won’t use the final as an excuse,” he said. “If we lose, next season will be even harder. Expectations will be high, and so will the pressure.”

Behind the scenes, Amorim and his players have stepped up. With staff layoffs looming and limited final tickets for support teams, the squad has offered to help cover travel costs for backroom staff families.

“It won’t change our lives financially,” Amorim said, “but it means everything to those who help us every day.”

Having lost a Europa League final as a player with Benfica in 2014, Amorim is determined not to repeat history.

“I don’t want to be remembered as a finalist. That’s a waste of time. We have to win, or it means nothing.”
