Lionel Messi, the captain of Inter Miami, has been fined by Major League Soccer (MLS) after a heated confrontation with a coach from New York City FC following their 2-2 draw on February 22.

The altercation occurred after Messi’s teammate, Telasco Segovia, scored a dramatic stoppage-time equalizer, which sparked intense emotions from both teams.

In a video that quickly went viral, Messi was seen approaching the opposing coaching staff and placing his hand on the neck of New York City FC’s assistant coach, Mehdi Ballouchy, amidst a heated exchange.

The MLS Disciplinary Committee acted swiftly, fining the 37-year-old Argentine forward for violating the league’s “Hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent” policy.
