Dozens of people reported feared dead after a huge explosion occurred between Bogoso-Appiatse and Bawdie, in the Western Region of Ghana.
According to Police initial report, a mining vehicle loaded with mining explosives. From Tarkwa heading to Chirano mines, collided with a motorcycle that resulted into explosion of the explosive materials, killing dozens of people and many injuries.
Most of the victims rescued are in admission in various hospitals in Bogoso and it surrounding receiving medical attention. The general public are been advised to temporarily relocate to the nearby towns and villages, while the emergency services are working tirelessly to assist the victims, and provide them with the necessary needed supports, and to bring the situation under control.
A Brief statement from the Police.
” Emergency Public Notice! “
“A huge explosion occurred this afternoon, Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Appiatse between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Western Region.”
“The Police and other emergency service providers have activated a full emergency recovery exercise.”
“We urge all to remain calm as we manage this unfortunate situation.
Full details will be communicated in due course.” Ghana Police Service.
The President saddened with situation
The President of the nation Nana Akufo-Addo, has expressed his sympathy and condolence to the victims and the families of the Bogoso-Appiatse incident. In a series of tweets, The President said.

“I have just received a briefing on the circumstances that led to an explosion in Apiate near Bogoso, in the Western Region, resulting in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties belonging to residents. It is a truly sad, unfortunate and tragic incident, and I extend, on behalf of Government, deep condolences to the families of the deceased, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
“Government will spare no effort to ensure a rapid return to a situation of normalcy for residents of Appiatse.” He added.
