Samuel Boadu Steals Show At Accra Sports Stadium After Hearts of Oak Exit From CAF Confederation Cup

Former Accra Hearts of Oak head coach, Samuel Boadu was the man of the moment following the club’s disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup last Sunday.

The Phobians went into the second leg of the game full of confidence and hope of overturning the first leg scoreline of 3-0 lost to Malian side Real Bamako.

However, the Accra-based club won 1-0 at home yesterday but was not enough to overturn it making Real Bamako qualify 3-1 on aggregate as Hearts of Oak were knocked out from the 2022-23 CAF Confederation cup.

While the technical team led by the newly appointed assistant coach David Dickson Ocloo, the players and the Hearts board were disappointed after the game, the fans were rather jubilating.

Prior to kick-off, ex-coach of Hearts of Oak, Samuel Boadu entered Accra Sports Stadium to support the club he loves so much even after his sacking.

He was spotted in a viral video waving to the supporters at the stance as they chanted his name in praise to welcome him as a fan.

After the game, the fans mobbed Samuel Boadu out of the stadium to heap more praises on him, they sang his name all along as they carried him. This gesture from the fans of Hearts of Oak shows clearly that the fans are not in support of the decision of the management of the club to part ways with him.

Most of the Hearts of Oak fans believe that Samuel Boadu is still the right man for the job. Their gesture also shows that they are protesting and want him to be reappointed again with immediate effect.

About three weeks ago, Samuel Boadu was dismissed by Accra Hearts of Oak as the club’s head coach following a poor start in the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League season.

Coach Samuel Boadu took charge of the Accra-based club in the middle of the 2021/22 season and won the Ghana Premier League, FA Cup, and Super Cup the same season.

The Ex-Medeama coach also won the FA last season which followed their success over Asante Kotoko in the Presidents Cup in 2022.

Boadu going together with his assistant Hamza Obeng and goalkeepers’ trainer Eric Amponsah, as confirmed by a statement from the club.

“Accra Hearts of Oak has decided to part ways with the entire technical team of the senior team led by Coach Samuel Boadu with immediate effect,” the statement read.

“The Club is of the opinion that there is the need for a new direction and the energy to ensure its broader objectives are achieved and it feels the time for that new direction is now.

“The Board and management will like to thank Samuel Boadu and his assistants for their contribution to our history and the memories – which will always remain with us. The club will like to wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Following his sacking, the Phobians appointed David Ocloo as an assistant coach at the club.

The former Asante Kotoko assistant trainer has been appointed by the Phobians in the same capacity even though the club has yet to hire a coach following the sacking of Samuel Boadu last week.

He will act as head coach of the club, and his immediate task will be to prepare the team for their CAF Confederation Cup qualifying match against Real Bamako of Mali this weekend.

The club confirmed on Sunday, 2 October 2022 that Ocloo” forms part of the club’s restructuring exercise of the technical team.”

The 38-year-old’s last job was assisting Prosper Nartey Ogum at Kotoko, a job he left along with his boss, two months ago.

I think the management of Accra Hearts of Oak will be disappointed and regret sacking the fans’ favourite Samuel Boadu for their lack of faith and patience. They sacked Boadu too early, they should wait for him to play Real Bamako before taking any decision.

However, Samuel Boadu shouldn’t have stepped on the field or allowed the fans to mob him since Hearts of Oak has a coach already doing the job. This was unacceptable behaviour from him.
