The Super-Eagles of Nigeria were defeated 1-0 by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the 2021 African Cup of Nations Tournament’s round of 16 clash in Garoua which encouraged the former international defender to drop out.

Eguaveon had supervised the three-time champions to three straight wins against Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau looking through that the Super Eagles were coasting to their fourth title.

Eguaveon said in a post match press that, “What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)”.

“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF to make a decision on the way forward”.
