The Black Galaxies and Niger will play each other in the 2022 African Nations Championship quarterfinal after Niger defeated Cameroon 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Niger’s position as the top team in Group E was assured by Ousseni Badamassi’s goal in the 69th minute, setting up an intriguing matchup with Ghana in the quaterfinals.
The Black Galaxies ended their group stage campaign in second place after losing their opening match against Madagascar, collecting six points in their final two games.
On Saturday, January 28, the two sides’ quarterfinal match is scheduled to take place at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria.
The first encounter between these teams was in the 2011 CHAN, where Niger overcame Ghana in the group stage before losing in the quarterfinals.
Thus, this will be the second meeting between these teams.
The Black Galaxies, who previously did so in 2009 and 2014 where they ended as runners-up, are attempting to reach the semifinals for the third time in their fourth attempt at the CHAN competition.
