Mohammed Salisu Now Open To Play For Black Stars

Mohammed Salisu, Southampton defender has finally decided to play for Black Stars following a meeting with Ghana Football Association officials.

Accra-based Joy FM reports that, Salisu has made himself available for a potential call-up to the Black Stars moving forward.

A close source to the Southampton center-back revealed that his recent meeting with the GFA boss, Kurt Okraku played a major role in accelerating his decision to feature for Ghana.

The former Real Valladolid star has been on the books of the Black Stars for two years in a bid to convince him to play for Ghana.

The 23-year-old held talks with various coaches of the senior national team since 2019, firstly under then trainer Kwasi Appiah, then Charles Akonnor before subsequently with Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac and new head coach Otto Addo.

GFA President and his team visited Mohammed Salisu in UK recently, it has been disclosed that, the player has given his word to feature for Ghana is he’s called again.

He was called for the Africa Cup of Nations but declined the call-up due to an injury he picked up with Real Valladolid in In 2019.

As time went on, Salisu continued to bounce invitations citing lack of readiness as his reason.

In 2021, the Southampton player reiterated his position on playing for the Black Stars in the future.

In an interview with MozzartSport Kenya, he said: “I’ll be so proud to play to my country, to play with Ghana, the national team.

But I think this is not the right moment to play in the national team. I think I need to focus on the club side because I am young, I think I need to focus on the club first and then after, when everything is fine, I can go and play for Ghana.”
