M N RidwanIn a recent address, President John Dramani Mahama revealed that his administration successfully prevented a potential power crisis in Ghana, following a crucial maintenance task on the West African Gas Pipeline.
The timely intervention ensured that the country’s energy supply remained uninterrupted, a relief for citizens who feared possible power shortages.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for six newly appointed ministers at Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, Mahama reassured the nation that the government had proactively managed the situation.
“The previous government did not work to ensure the smooth running of the energy sector by neglecting to arrange enough fuel for our thermal plants,” he remarked, referencing the challenges the energy sector faced under his predecessor.
The scheduled maintenance work on the West African Gas Pipeline, which provides essential fuel for thermal plants in the eastern region, posed a significant risk to Ghana’s energy stability.
President Mahama emphasized that, thanks to swift action by his team, the threat of power outages was averted.
“We have now secured the necessary fuel supplies to power the thermal plants, ahead of the pipeline shutdown,” Mahama stated.
A key figure in this success was the newly appointed Energy Minister, John Jinapor.
The President praised his diligence and quick response, acknowledging his efforts in ensuring the energy sector remained stable during a time of uncertainty.
In addition to addressing the energy crisis, President Mahama reiterated his commitment to maintaining a lean government.
He assured the public that the total number of ministers would remain at 60, as promised during his campaign.
“As the ministers are approved by Parliament, I will proceed with appointing deputy ministers, ensuring fiscal efficiency,” he stated.
With critical energy issues resolved and a streamlined government in place, President Mahama’s administration continues to tackle the challenges facing the nation with determination and accountability.
