JURGEN KLOPP HAILS VIRGIL VAN DIJK AHEAD OF EVERTON GAME ON WEDNESDAY

Virgil Van Dijk to feature against Everton

Liverpool set to face Everton on Wednesday night, with Van Dijk to play for the first time after suffering a serious knee injury in October 2020, Van Dijk was injured in an interception by Jordan Pickford and missed the rest of the 2020/21 season.

Virgil Van Dijk sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage from a tackle by Jordan Pickford in the course of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Everton in October 2020, eliminating him out of the rest of the season.

He then returned after 10 months to the field in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Norwich on the opening day of the present-day campaign and has showed up in every minute of the premier league without looking back.

On Wednesday Liverpool’s game against rivals Everton, Van Dijk looks set to keep his position in the team. When Jurgen Klopp was fun asked to assess the performance of the Liverpool defender, he said, ” He came back brilliant. He had a good pre-season, which was absolutely helpful”.

” Since then we have had to learn a little bit to keep to dealing with it. With the third game in the week, even when he looks fine, maybe he needs a little break. I’m not sure if we have to do that still”.

“But his comeback has been absolutely brilliant, and if somethings are not exactly like they have been, it’s only a matter of time before they will be”.

As admitted by Klopp, it may not be easy for Virgil to play at Goodison park for the first time after his injury, Klopp believes Virgil is experienced enough to handle the situation.

” We are human beings and it’s difficult to forget something like that. The situation should not happen in football and it does not happen very often”, Klopp added.

If Liverpool wins the game against Everton, this extends their winless run to eight matches, but Klopp stand firm that his side are only focused on collecting the three points as they look to close gab on Chelsea, the league leaders.

He continued, “there are some special things among derbies, but first and foremost it’s a football game and that’s exactly how we want to approach it. We know what our supporters want and we try to fulfil their dreams”.

“In football you need a cool head. It’s still emotional, but you have to use your emotions in the right way. That’s the plan for tomorrow night”.
