Ghana Police Service Denies Neglecting Injured Officer, Clarifies Medical Care Provided

The Ghana Police Service has strongly denied accusations circulating on social media that it has neglected Police Inspector Alfred N. Kuuzaa, who was injured by gunfire while returning from duty during the December 7, 2024, general elections in Atebubu, Bono East Region.

In a statement issued on Friday, February 21, and signed by Assistant Commissioner Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Police Service clarified that Inspector Kuuzaa has received comprehensive medical care and that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure his recovery.

The statement emphasized that Kuuzaa, who sustained serious gunshot wounds, is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he successfully underwent surgery.

The costs of his medical treatment are fully covered under the Police Emergency Medical Intervention Fund (PERMIF).

The Police Service also pointed out that the Ashanti Regional Police Director of Welfare has been in constant contact with Kuuzaa’s family and medical team, providing support and acting as the primary liaison between the Police and the officer’s family.

Addressing the allegations of neglect, the Police Service categorically dismissed the claims as false, urging the public to disregard such misinformation.

“The Ghana Police Service, therefore, wishes to categorically state that the publication of neglect of our colleague officer is false, and we invite the public to disregard and treat it with the contempt it deserves,” the statement read.

The Police also extended their best wishes to Inspector Kuuzaa, expressing hope for his swift recovery. They took the opportunity to commend all police officers across the country for their continued dedication to ensuring peace and security, especially in times of risk.

These remarks come after a wave of social media posts suggested that the Ghana Police Service had failed to provide adequate care for the injured officer.

With the official statement, the Ghana Police Service has firmly refuted such claims, assuring the public that the well-being of its personnel remains a top priority.
