Ghana qualifies for the play-offs as they managed to keep alive their hopes of reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after beating South Africa by a goal to nil.Andrew Ayew scored the only goal for Ghana in the stressful experience on Sunday evening at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Andrew Ayew, who plays in Qatar played his 100th match for Ghana Black Stars, turned smoothly after Daniel Amartey was brought down by the opponent in the box during the first half.
The Black Stars knew very well that any kind of victory could send them through, so they organised their team well and also played solid.
They weren’t nervous when they lost Mohammed Kudus in the early first half due to injury. They pressed their opponent due to which they won many freekicks and corners, for which one resulted into penalty.
Amartey was obstructed when he was about to attack the ball and the South Africans too couldn’t deal properly with Daniel Kofi Kyereh.
Ghana had the lead when Andrew Ayew sent the goalkeeper the wrong direction within the 33rd minutes of the game.
Ghana managed to end the half without conceding when the South Africans quickly changed their game plans.
The opponents came in strongly in the second half . Alexander Djiku and Amartey were troubled with the long balls by their opponents but managed to keep their heads cool.
Jordan Ayew won freekicks in key areas on attacking as he was strong. Kamaldeen Sulemana was calm and was able to create a couple of chances for Ghana Black Stars.
Milovan Rajevac joined his players to celebrate on the pitch after the final whistle whiles the Bafana Bafana of South Africa fell on the pitch in tears.
Ghana to join DR Congo, Mali, Morocco, Egypt and Senegal in the play-offs. There are four more slots which are yet to be decided.
