Adebayor In Disbelieved As Some European Clubs Refused To Release Players For AFCON

Adebayor

Former Togo captain, Emmanuel Adebayor looses it, as some European clubs refuses to release African players to take part in the African Cup of Nations ( AFCON ) that will begin in the second week of January 2022.

As stated by the former Real Madrid striker, the decision taken by the European clubs not to release their players for the AFCON isn’t right, because no club can prevent him from representing his country at Africa’s biggest showpiece.

He made this comment following the European Clubs Association (ECA) release on the 10th of December 2021, which stated that its members are not enclosed by any rules to release their players for the AFCON tournament in 2022.

Adebayor referred the posture taken by the clubs as revulsive.

Adebayor had said, “There’s no coach in the World that will prevent me from playing at the African Cup of Nation “AFCON.”

He was quoted by the BBC Sports contributor, Njie Enow.

“It is disgusting that some persons are trying to prevent African players from playing at the AFCON”.

Some version of the release by the ECA stated, “As you know, the pandemic and it’s associated implications raise three fundamental concerns for clubs when it comes to the release of players to national teams: first and foremost, the club’s duty to ensure each and every player’s wellbeing is properly protected.”

“Second, that clubs are not forced to be without players for club competition matches, third, that all players resume thier activities with their clubs following national duty in a timely fashion, as per the applicable rules”.

In spite of the contention, the AFCON is to commence on the 9th of January with Cameroon and Burkina Faso opening the 36th edition of the tournament, African Cup of Nation 2022.
