MPUMALANGA- MAN ARRESTED FOR KILLING HIS WIFE OVER A PHONE CALL

Mpumalanga, a province in eastern South Africa, bordering Swaziland and Mozambique,
A 38 man was arrested for killing his wife over argument over cell phone call she was making while the husband, now a suspected murderer was asleep.

It was alleged that, the now suspected killer (the husband), who was fast-asleep at their home in Mabarhule a small village in Mpumalanga Province. On Thursday evening waked up to find his 30 years old wife now deceased, was talking to an unknown person on the phone.

A statement by the local police force spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala.

“It is said that the suspect was asleep then woke up and found his wife busy talking on the cellphone, then a quarrel began which turned into a fight and grappling over a cellphone, the suspect is alleged to have then grabbed his licenced firearm and shot her twice.”

“It is unknown if the argument was sparked by his wife speaking on the cellphone, or who she was speaking to, the Police responded to the scene and found the wife lying in the bedroom. She sustained bullet wounds on her upper body and back.”

“The members (police) immediately alerted their counterparts from emergency services to come and assist, but unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was certified dead at the scene.”

The police spokesperson, Mohlala said in the short statement.

The suspect who was still at the house, when the police arrived was arrested and taken to police custody to assist with the police investigation, and will soon be arranged to appear in Court.

Ramaphosa said the latest crime statistics released by the South African Police Service (SAPS), showed an increase in rape, domestic violence and, most worryingly, child murders.

Stats released Friday showed the number of rapes stood at 9,556 — an increase of 634, or 7.1%, from July to September.

“Of the nearly 73,000 assault cases reported during this period, more than 13,000 were domestic violence-related. The rate of child murders has climbed by nearly a third compared to the previous reporting period,” Ramaphosa wrote in his weekly online column.

He said the statistics are shameful.
