Special Gift For Ronaldo From the Referee: Otto Addo On Unfair Penalty

The penalty handed to Portugal against Ghana in their 2022 World Cup Group H match, according to Black Stars coach Otto Addo, was a special gift from referee Ismail Efalth.

After the American referee controversially gave the Portuguese a penalty in the 64th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the game’s first goal.

Sadly enough, to no avail, Efalth disregarded the objections made by the Ghanaian players.

Meanwhile, Joao Felix and Raphael Leao’s goals helped the Euro 2016 champions win 3-2 on Thursday night at Stadium 974.

Also, Andre Ayew and Osman Bukari both scored goals for the Black Stars.

At the post-game news conference, Otto Addo expressed his displeasure with the referee’s performance, iterating:

“The referee gave a penalty which was not a penalty. Everyone saw that. Why? Because it’s Ronaldo or something?

If somebody scores a goal, congratulations. But this was really a gift. A special gift from the referee.

I asked if I could speak to the ref and was told he’s in a meeting and it’s not possible.”

To improve its prospects of winning the international championship, Ghana will play South Korea next on Monday, November 28, before finishing the group against Uruguay on Tuesday, December 2.
