The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, has urged the Inspector General of the Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to make sure that all illegal firearms are taken from civilians.
Asantehene said there was no hesitation about the fact that many of illegal weapons had eventually find their ways into communities, emphasizing that in order to maintain absolute peace in the country, such illegal arms must be rid of.
Last Wednesday, the Asantehene reminded the IGP that, “it’s your responsibility to protect lives and properties in the country” when the IGP paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
IGP Dr. Dampare, went along with some senior police officers, including the Director-General in charge of administration, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Director-General in charge of legal and prosecution, COP Mr. Nathan Kofi Boakye, and the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID), COP Mr. Isaac Ken Yeboah.
According to the IGP, ” He has been instructed by the President to do everything within his possible means to reduce crime to the barest base, and could not afford to fail the nation”.
The Asantehene had prompted the IGP to keep an eye on the Ghana borders to prevent the invading of criminals.
He told the IGP, “Let’s watch our borders”, adding that refugees were likely to come into the country with weapons once they were driven away from their comfort zones as a result of conflicts.

The Asantehene urged the IGP that in order to achieve success in their work, he should work closely with his subordinates.
He also asked the IGP not to miss any wrongdoing within his service.
The IGP in return thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu for his wise advice.
He assured Otumfuo that the Police Service was composed to maintain absolute law and order in the country, under his supervision.
