OFFICIAL: Otto Addo Names Ghana Provisional 55-man Squad For 2022 World Cup

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has officially announced Ghana’s provisional 55-man squad ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

There has been a slightly new face but the usual faces such as captain Dede Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Party, and Daniel Amartey among others were included in the provisional 55-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, only three local players; two from Accra Hearts of Oak and one from Asante Kotoko have been named in the 55-man squad as well.

They are Daniel Afiriyie Barnieh, Dennis Korsah, and Ibrahim Danlad from Hearts of Oak and Kotoko respectively were shortlisted.

Also, the provisional 55-man squad saw some returnees as well, the likes of Mubarak Wakaso, Richmond Boakye Yiadom, Caleb Ekuban, and Kassim Nuhu are some big-name returnees into the squad.

However, a week before the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off, the squad will be pruned down to 26 players.

Ghana has been placed in Group H with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea, and the Black Stars begins their World Cup campaign as they face Portugal on 24th November 2022.

Meanwhile, Son Heung-Min, Tottenham Hotspur forward was taken off midway through the first half of a Champions League match at Marseille on Tuesday after taking a shoulder to his face in a collision with an opponent.

The South Korean captain received treatment for about four minutes before being assisted off the pitch at Stade Velodrome. Son appeared to be unsteady on his feet as he walked off.

The setback, if critical, means South Korea will come to the Qatar Party (FIFA World Cup) without their talisman; a development which has sent many Ghanaian football fans into a frenzy on social media.

Tottenham assistant head coach Cristian Stellini, who was filling in for Antonio Conte as he served a sideline ban, after the match that Son’s eye was swollen but added he was already feeling better and would be assessed in the next 24 hours.
