M N RidwanIn a powerful bid to support holistic well-being in Ghana, Mrs. Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh, wife of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 vice-presidential candidate, has officially launched the Empowering Better Life Foundation (EBLF).
The initiative is aimed at transforming the lives of children, adolescents, and vulnerable communities across the country by addressing pressing social issues such as mental health, menstrual hygiene, inclusive education, and financial literacy.
The launch, held at the African Regent Hotel in Accra, was a moment of immense pride for Mrs. Adade-Prempeh, who described the occasion as the beginning of a new movement.
“Today is not just about fulfilling a dream, but about starting something that will change lives and communities for the better,” she shared with an enthusiastic crowd.
One of the central focuses of the foundation is to tackle the growing mental health crisis in Ghana, particularly among young people.
Mrs. Adade-Prempeh spoke candidly about the emotional and psychological struggles faced by children and adolescents, emphasizing that mental health issues like depression and anxiety are affecting the younger generation more than ever before.
She noted that the stigma around mental health often prevents young people from seeking help, leaving many to suffer in silence.
The founder also highlighted the often-overlooked challenges of mothers who care for children with special needs.
“These mothers are unsung heroes,” she stated, urging that they too deserve support, both emotionally and financially.
She called for more safe spaces and resources for caregivers to ensure that children with special learning needs have access to quality education and emotional support.
In addition to mental health, the foundation also focuses on menstrual hygiene, an issue that has led many adolescent girls to miss school due to a lack of access to sanitary products.
Mrs. Adade-Prempeh emphasized that every girl should have the tools to manage her menstrual cycle with dignity, allowing her to pursue education without barriers.
Furthermore, the foundation will advocate for financial literacy, an essential skill that Mrs. Adade-Prempeh believes is crucial for young people to navigate adulthood successfully.
She expressed concern that many young adults are entering the workforce without the financial knowledge needed to make wise financial decisions.
During the event, the Special Guest, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, commended the foundation’s focus on mental health, inclusive education, and financial literacy.
She stressed the importance of collaboration and ethical leadership in addressing these societal issues.
“The EBLF’s mission aligns perfectly with the Commonwealth’s commitment to democracy, human rights, and sustainable development,” she stated, urging stakeholders across Ghana and beyond to unite in support of the foundation’s vision.
