President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Yendi and its surrounding communities that his government will prioritize fixing the longstanding water crisis in the area.

Speaking during a courtesy call to the Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace on Saturday, Mahama vowed to tackle the water shortage with urgency as part of his administration’s development agenda.

The President, who was greeted with loud cheers and excitement by residents, also committed to resolving the water issues in Tamale by the end of his four-year term.

He promised to implement sustainable water projects throughout the Northern Region, benefiting communities that have struggled with access to clean water.

“I am determined to address the water situation in Yendi and its surrounding areas,” Mahama said.

“My government will make it a priority, ensuring that sustainable water systems are put in place for the long-term benefit of the people.”

As part of his “Thank You Tour,” following his victory in the December presidential elections, Mahama also outlined broader plans for the region’s development.

These included investments in electricity supply, which would improve power availability, and a commitment to complete the Eastern Corridor Road.

This key infrastructure project, which links the Northern Region through Yendi to Accra, is expected to significantly enhance transportation, facilitate trade, and boost economic activity between northern and southern Ghana.

In addition to water and infrastructure development, Mahama emphasized his government’s commitment to creating jobs and providing skills development opportunities for the youth.

His administration will also focus on afforestation projects to help combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability in the region.

Mahama expressed his gratitude to the people of Yendi and Dagbon for their unwavering support during his campaign.

He called for continued backing from the people to ensure the success of his government’s development programs.
