Guinea’s President Colonel Mamady Doumbouya sends warning to the country’s squad for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), he has asked his players either to win the tournament or pay back the money they used for the preparation towards the tournament.

The Guinea National team known as National Elephants, captained by Liverpool’s central midfielder Naby Keita, are in group B of the tournament with Senegal, Malawi and Zimbabwe which is set to commence on January 9th 2022 in Cameroon

The National Elephants had their best finished at the African Cup of Nations tournament in the year 1976, where they finished runners-up to Morocco, in the last edition of the AFCON tournament to feature a final group stage.

They will then play against Senegal captained by Sadio Mane four days later. And end their set of group fixture with a match against Zimbabwe on the 18th of January.

Guinea, who have never made it to the
FIFA World Cup finals, made it through to the quarter finals of four events this century, most lately in 2015.

Yet, they failed to qualify for the tournament two years later and were sent home by Algeria in the round of 16 in 2019.
