The Interior Minister has extended the curfew hours in three problematic areas of the country.
The areas of Kpatinga in the Gushegu Municipality of the Northern Region, where a person was shot dead in a chieftaincy violence early last year, Bimbilla in the Northern Region, where there have been a long-drawn-out chieftaincy dispute, and Alavanyo and Nkonya in the Oti Region, where these two towns are involved in a boundary dispute.
The extension of the curfew were held in a press release from Ministry of Interior on the 6th of January, 2022 and signed by the Minister, Mr. Ambrose Dery.
KPATINGA
On Kpatinga and its environs, the release showed that the minister, on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive instrument, extended the curfew hours inflict on the town and its environs from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am operative Friday, 7th of January 2022.
The statement said the government went on to show appreciation to the people of the community including the chiefs,elders and the opinion leaders for their endeavour of maintaining peace in the area.
Hence, the statement motivated them to exercise self-control in the face of challenges bothering them and to use non-violent means to channel their vitality into ensuring peace.
BIMBILLA
For Bimbilla, the statement said the minister, on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive instrument, extended the curfew hours inflict on the town and it’s environs from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 am operative Friday, 7th of January 2022.
The statement said, “Government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace to the area”.

The statement warned that, any person found with any arms and ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted due to a ban placed on all the people of Bimbilla and environs from moving along with ammunition or any offensive weapon.
ALAVANYO AND NKONYA
Considering Alavanyo and Nkonya towns, the statement said the Minister by Executive instrument extended the curfew hours from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am effective from the 9th of January 2022.
“Government continues to express its appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area for their efforts to ensure peace in the area and urges them to use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes”.
At the same time, the government has put ban on all persons from these towns and it’s environs from carrying arms and ammunition, and any person who if found with these offensive weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
