CAS Lifts GFA Ban on Solomon Safo-Taylor, Allowing Striker to Resume Career

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has temporarily lifted the three-year ban placed on 26-year-old striker Solomon Safo-Taylor by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This provisional decision allows Safo-Taylor, the former Asante Kotoko and Karela United player, to return to professional football while his appeal is pending.

The original ban, imposed by the GFA Disciplinary Committee on April 15, 2024, was related to allegations of double registration and document falsification, which put his contract with Asante Kotoko in jeopardy.

However, after appealing the decision on November 6, 2024, Safo-Taylor received a favorable provisional ruling from CAS on December 4, 2024.

The ruling reinstates his player license and grants him permission to engage in football activities during the ongoing arbitration process.

The CAS decision also temporarily overturns the GFA Appeals Committee’s confirmation of the ban from May 29, 2024, offering hope to Safo-Taylor as he awaits the final determination of his case.

However, the costs of the interim ruling will be decided once the final arbitration is concluded.

The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) welcomed the ruling, calling it “good news” for Safo-Taylor’s career.

In a statement, PFAG expressed their support for the player, highlighting that the decision offers him an opportunity to continue his professional football career while the matter is resolved.

As of now, the GFA has yet to respond to the CAS ruling. The lifting of the ban has been a significant development in the ongoing case, offering Safo-Taylor a chance to get back on the pitch while awaiting the final outcome.
