CAPTAIN KOJO TSIKATA FORMER HEAD OF THE PNDC HAS PASSED AWAY

Captain Kojo Tsikata, the former head of the National Security and foreign affairs of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), and one of the founding member of the National Democratic Congress “NDC” has passed away.

As stated by the family, the former member of the council of state who has been ill for some time now. And he pass on in the early hours of Saturday, 20th of November. The course of his death has not been revealed at this moment of time.

A statement provided by Colonel (retd) Joshua Agbotui and Fui Tsikata said in accordance to the wishes of the deceased that there is going to be a private burial ceremony.

” The family of Captain Kojo Tsikata regrets to announce that he passed in the early hours of Saturday, 20th November 2021. He was 85″.

” In accordance with his wishes, the family will be making arrangements for a private funeral”. Said the statement.

Sammy Gyamfi, The National Communications Officer of the NDC earlier announced his death on the Key Points on Saturday, November 20th on TV3.

Sammy said, ” This is really sad news not just for NDC. It is a sad news for Ghana”.

He is recorded as a retired army captain in Ghana Army.

Captain Tsikata was appointed the Head Of The National Security under Jerry John Rawlings administration in 1982 and had been in charge since, when he later joined the Rawlings administration on the 21st of January, 1995.

Justice G.E.K Aikins, a retired Supreme Court Judge affirmed that Captain Tsikata was involved in a kidnapping and murder of three high court judges and a retired army officer on the 30th of June 1983, during the PNDC government. But he was never tried.

Captain Tsikata was brought under inspection and he denied being involved in the kidnapping of the judges in 2003 during the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC).

According to the Attorney General’s detailed reasons, there was also inadequate proof to prosecute him.
