ASANTEHENE-EDUCATION SYSTEM MUST PRODUCE CREATIVE GRADUATES NOT CONSUMERS

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, has called for modification in the system of education in Ghana, to build and control graduates into problem solvers.

He was bothered that nowadays graduates have become bare users of others innovations with no straight association with the confine issues of nation.

The Asantehene, who made comments at the 6th Quadrennial, and the 53rd National Delegates Meeting of the Ghana National Association of Teachers.

Which took place in Kumasi, the Overlord of the Ashanti kingdom, did not holdback when he said Ghana has devoted it’s resources to produce graduates he termed as ‘LETTERED ILLITERATE’ for the past years.

Meanwhile, other countries are producing scientists and mathematicians who are  directing the global economy.

The Asantehene said, “Our educational system has turned us into a vast, expanding marketplace of consumers of other people’s creations”.

“While the economies of Asia are expanding and generating billions for their creations and inventions, we are putting increasing pressure on ourselves to find the resources to consume what others have created”.

Also, he had noticed that,students carry the stress of industrial activities caused by the difference in opinion between the government and labour unions with the sector.

He urged both the government and the labour unions, in order to do away with the growing  threats of industrial moves, they should enhance their negotiations.

He added, “urge you all to focus on the need for an improved formula of negations and consultations which will minimize if not eliminate any recourse to industrial action with harmful consequences on our children”
