M N RidwanLiverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-game touchline ban following his red card during the intense 2-2 Premier League draw with Everton on 12 February.
The incident occurred when Slot approached referee Michael Oliver on the pitch after the dramatic match at Goodison Park.
Slot’s actions came after James Tarkowski’s controversial 98th-minute equalizer, which led to chaos on the field.
Everton fans rushed onto the pitch to celebrate, and Liverpool players, particularly defender Ibrahima Konate, felt the goal should have been ruled out for a push.
Slot, visibly frustrated, exchanged words with an assistant referee before shaking hands with Oliver, who promptly showed him a red card.
Assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff was also dismissed in the aftermath.
The ban means that Slot will miss Liverpool’s upcoming home match against Newcastle on Wednesday and the league encounter with Southampton on 8 March.
However, he will be able to return to the touchline for Liverpool’s Champions League last-16 clash with Paris St-Germain on 5 March.
Alongside the ban, Slot has been fined £70,000 after accepting the charge, and both Liverpool and Everton have received fines for failing to control their players—£65,000 and £50,000, respectively. Hulshoff was fined £7,000 and banned for two games as well.
Slot, who was unable to speak to the media immediately after the match due to his red card, later admitted in a press conference that “emotions got the better of me.”
The match also saw Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones sent off for second yellow cards after the final whistle, both serving one-game bans.
Slot’s first domestic match back in the dugout will be the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on 16 March, following the international break.
Liverpool, currently 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League, will face Everton again at Anfield on 2 April.
