Sadio Mane, Senegal and Bayern Munich forward has been named the 2022 African Player of the Year for a second time.
Sadio Mane faced stiff competition for the prestigious award of 2022 African Player of the Year from his former Liverpool teammate Mohammed Salah and Chelsea stopper Edouard Mendy.
Mane had a fantastic season with Liverpool, finishing second in the English Premier League and losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in May. He helped Liverpool win both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup as well.
At this year’s AFCON tournament, Mane led his national team Senegal to win their first African cup after defeating Egypt in penalties.
They went ahead to beat Egypt again on penalties to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is set to kick off in November 2022.
Asisat Oshaola of Nigeria and Barcelona was selected as the 2022 African Women’s Player of the Year, while Evelyn Badu of Ghana won the Inter-Club Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year awards.
