Chief of Staff Grills Sammy Gyamfi After Dollar Dash Goes Public

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has called for an urgent meeting with the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, after a video showing him giving out cash to Nana Agradaa sparked public outrage.

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows Mr. Gyamfi handing over what appears to be US dollar notes to popular evangelist and former fetish priestess, Patricia Oduro Koranteng—better known as Nana Agradaa.

Although the amount gifted remains undisclosed, the act has raised eyebrows across the country, with many questioning whether a senior public official should be seen distributing money so openly, especially to such a controversial figure.

Sources at Jubilee House have confirmed that Mr. Gyamfi has been officially summoned to explain the motivation behind the gesture.

The move comes just days after President John Dramani Mahama launched a new Code of Conduct for Public Officials, aimed at promoting ethics, integrity, and accountability in public service.

Critics argue that the video undermines the spirit of this newly introduced Code. Many believe the action could cast a shadow over the government’s anti-corruption efforts and tarnish its public image.

In response to the uproar, Mr. Gyamfi released a statement on Sunday, May 11, stating that the cash gift was a personal donation and not intended to make headlines.

“It was simply a kind act that unfortunately went viral,” he said, expressing regret over the attention it has drawn.

However, sources close to the Presidency say the Chief of Staff is not taking the matter lightly.

With political tensions high and public trust at stake, the administration is expected to take a firm stance on any actions that could be seen as unethical or inappropriate.

More updates are expected following Mr. Gyamfi’s appearance before the Chief of Staff this week.
