The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that it has received a much-needed GH¢35 million from Ghana’s Ministry of Education to fast-track the processing of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

This additional funding follows an earlier disbursement of GH¢25 million, which is part of the GH¢118 million owed to WAEC, helping to alleviate some of the financial strain the council has been facing.

According to a statement released on December 25, 2024, WAEC revealed that the new funds would be directed toward the completion of the scanning of objective answer sheets and finalizing the results for school candidates.

The aim is to ensure that all 2024 WASSCE results are ready for release by the end of December, meeting the important deadline and alleviating concerns about delays.

The swift release of funds by the government underscores the importance of maintaining a smooth and reliable examination process, which is crucial for the future of the students involved.

It also highlights the Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring the timely release of results, particularly after previous delays and challenges with the examination system.

This infusion of GH¢35 million will help WAEC tackle the rising costs of operations, including the technological infrastructure required for scanning and result processing.

Despite ongoing financial struggles, this quick action from the Ministry of Education is expected to strengthen public confidence in the examination process and provide reassurance to candidates and their families.

With the deadline fast approaching, WAEC is focused on ensuring that the 2024 WASSCE results are processed without further interruptions, ultimately supporting the students in their educational journey and future academic opportunities.
