Volta Minister and Ghana Gas Officials Address Delays in Housing Project for Tidal Wave Victims

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has met with officials from Ghana Gas and other key stakeholders, including the project contractor and the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, to address the delays affecting the completion of a 15-unit housing project for residents displaced by tidal waves.

The project, intended for the communities of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope, has faced significant setbacks, leaving many families without the housing relief they were promised.

During the meeting, the stakeholders reviewed the progress of the project, with each party offering updates on their roles and responsibilities.

The discussions revealed that the construction site’s conditions were not conducive to completing the project, and a more comprehensive engineering approach would be required to ensure the long-term stability of the buildings.

Mr. Augustus Awity, the Volta Regional Chief Director, joined Minister Gunu in pressing the project team for clear timelines and action plans moving forward.

Both emphasized the urgency of the situation, calling for swift action to provide permanent housing for the affected families.

Minister Gunu reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to expedite the project.

“We recognize the urgency of this project and the need to deliver sustainable solutions for our people. We will continue to push for swift action and ensure that these families are not left without shelter,” he said.

In addition to providing immediate housing relief, the Minister highlighted that the government is exploring long-term coastal protection measures to prevent future tidal wave disasters that could displace more families.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from Ghana Gas and other involved parties to conduct the necessary engineering assessments and resume work on the housing project as soon as possible.

The residents of Agavedzi, Amutinu, and Salakope are hopeful that these interventions will finally lead to a lasting solution to their housing crisis.
