Trump Declares Only Two Genders in New Executive Order, Targets ‘Woke’ Culture

M N RidwanIn a bold move on his first day in office, President Donald Trump announced that his administration would officially recognize only two genders, male and female, fulfilling a key promise made during his campaign.
In a statement delivered during his inaugural address, Trump declared, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
The policy shift, confirmed by administration officials, is set to be enacted through an executive order that will be signed on Monday.
The order asserts that gender is fixed and cannot be changed, effectively overturning policies introduced under previous administrations that allowed for greater recognition of gender fluidity and non-binary identities.
The order also targets diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within federal agencies.
It seeks to eliminate such initiatives, withdraw funding, and review any changes made to federal offices under DEI-related policies.
The Trump administration’s move is a direct response to what it calls “woke” culture, further cementing his commitment to his conservative base.
While the executive order primarily impacts the federal government, there is uncertainty about whether it will extend to the private sector.
Companies like McDonald’s, Walmart, and Meta have already scaled back or discontinued their DEI programs following Trump’s election, but others, such as Apple, Target, and Costco, continue to support and defend their diversity initiatives.
Critics of the move argue that DEI programs are crucial for addressing systemic inequalities, particularly those faced by marginalized groups.
The programs gained significant attention after the racial justice protests in 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, and remain a contentious issue across the country.
As the policy takes shape, debates about its impact on society and businesses are expected to continue.
