Transition Team Uncovers New Multi-Million Scandal at BOST

A new scandal has emerged at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), revealing the mismanagement of a multimillion cedi contract for the rehabilitation of tugboats at its Akosombo office.

Despite a contract being awarded in October 2022, the project, initially slated to take five months, has dragged on for nearly two years with little to show for the nearly 6 million cedi expenditure.

The contract was awarded to M&B Limited, with the scope of work including the repair of a tugboat, modification of discharge pipelines, and installation of pumps.

The agreed cost was 5.65 million cedis, inclusive of taxes. However, the tugboat remains unfit for service, raising concerns about the misuse of public funds.

According to sources, BOST’s management, led by Josiah, allegedly pressured workers to force the boat into motion, hoping that doing so would provide a defense for the significant amount spent on its maintenance.

The transition team has been tasked with reviewing the details of the project, which has been marked by inefficiencies and accusations of financial mismanagement.

Eyewitnesses reported that beyond basic tasks like oil changes, painting, and installing non-functional equipment, no meaningful work has been completed.

Staff at the Akosombo site have raised alarm about the absence of the contractor, further fueling suspicions that the project may have been handled internally by BOST management.

Compounding the controversy is the alleged involvement of a General Manager at BOST, who is said to have personally provided equipment for the project.

This raises serious concerns about procurement processes and transparency at the company.

As the project continues to waste taxpayer money with no tangible progress, Ghanaians are calling for an independent investigation to hold those responsible accountable for this blatant misuse of public resources.
