M N RidwanIn a shocking incident at Asuoso Senior High School in Offinso, a student st@bbed a teacher in the eye after the educator asked him to return to class.
The violent attack, which took place on November 8, 2024, has left the teacher permanently blind in one eye and sparked outrage across the education community.
The teacher had spotted the student loitering outside the classroom and instructed him to go back inside.
In a sudden and unprovoked attack, the student pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the teacher in the left eye.
The teacher, who was rushed to the hospital, now faces permanent vision loss and a long road to recovery.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has condemned the act of violence and is calling for immediate action.
GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Musah Tanko, spoke exclusively to 3news, expressing his frustration over the lack of response from authorities.
“The teacher has lost his eye, and this could have been avoided if proper action was taken,” Tanko said.
GNAT has issued a stern warning to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Police Service, giving them three days to prosecute the student involved.
If no progress is made, Tanko stated that teachers might consider withdrawing their services in protest.
“We are giving the authorities until next week to act. If nothing is done, we will be left with no choice but to take industrial action,” he warned.
The attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of teachers in schools, with many calling for stronger measures to protect educators from violence.
In the meantime, the teacher’s medical expenses and recovery process remain a pressing issue, with the community questioning who will bear the cost of his treatment.
The investigation is ongoing, and the education community continues to demand justice for the victim.
