M N RidwanA devastating plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Korea has claimed the lives of 179 people, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the country’s history.
The tragic incident occurred on December 29, 2024, when a Jeju Air flight, carrying 181 people from Bangkok, crashed during its landing. Only two survivors, both flight crew members, were pulled from the wreckage alive.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, veered off the runway, collided with a barrier, and erupted into flames.
Initial reports suggest that a bird strike—a collision between a plane and a bird in flight—may have caused a malfunction in the plane’s landing gear, leading to the tragic crash.
Bird strikes are a common occurrence in aviation, with more than 1,400 reported in the UK alone in 2022. However, only a small number of these incidents cause significant damage to aircraft.
Dramatic footage from the crash scene shows the plane veering off the runway, crashing into a wall, and bursting into flames.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, working tirelessly to rescue survivors. Sadly, despite the efforts, the majority of those onboard lost their lives.
South Korea’s acting President, Choi Sung-mok, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and has ordered a full investigation into the crash.
Authorities are determined to understand the exact cause of the disaster and prevent such an event from ever happening again.
As the nation mourns the loss of so many lives, the global aviation community is also reeling from the devastating news.
The two survivors, both members of the flight crew, are currently in stable condition, and their recovery is being closely monitored.
The nation remains united in grief as families and loved ones seek answers following this heart-wrenching disaste.
