M N RidwanDancehall artist Shatta Wale has called for a significant reform of Ghana’s entertainment industry, urging President John Dramani Mahama to introduce changes that will professionalize and structure the sector.
In an open letter shared on social media, Shatta Wale emphasized the need for the government to view the entertainment industry as more than just a form of entertainment but as a legitimate career path for young aspiring artists.
Shatta Wale, who has become one of Ghana’s most prominent music figures, expressed his hope that, as President Mahama focuses on the broader task of “resetting” the nation, he would also consider implementing reforms to elevate the entertainment sector.
The artist pointed to the government’s regular reshuffling of ministers as an example, suggesting that similar efforts could be made to enhance the professionalism in music and media.
“I wish our new president John Dramani Mahama can also reform our music system to attract more professionals on radio and television, similar to the appointment of new ministers when they assume power,” Shatta Wale wrote.
“The entertainment industry needs that change. The younger ones coming can’t go through what some of us have been through.”
The letter underscored Shatta Wale’s commitment to seeing a more sustainable and professional environment for Ghanaian artists, urging that music and entertainment be seen as legitimate careers, rather than simply hobbies.
The artist highlighted that the next generation of musicians and creatives must have the tools and support to thrive in the industry.
Shatta Wale’s message calls for future reforms that would provide lasting benefits to both new and seasoned artists, and create an environment where the entertainment industry can continue to grow in professionalism and recognition.
