In a significant career milestone, Sammi Awuku, the former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North Constituency in Ghana, has been appointed Vice President for SME Global, overseeing the African continent.

This announcement, confirmed in a letter dated March 10, 2025, marks a key moment in Awuku’s career, as he takes on a leadership role in the global push to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Africa.

SME Global, a prominent network focused on promoting SMEs and start-ups, is the economic arm of the International Democracy Union (IDU).

The organization’s mission is to foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem through low taxation, economic responsibility, and the promotion of individual liberty within a socially-oriented market economy.

The letter confirming Awuku’s appointment, signed by Lilia Heitz, Secretary-General of SME Global, expressed confidence in his ability to drive impactful initiatives across the continent.

“We are confident that your contributions will be instrumental in advancing our mission and driving impactful initiatives.

We appreciate your commitment to this responsibility and look forward to collaborating on strengthening the global SME landscape,” the letter read.

As Vice President for Africa, Awuku’s primary responsibility will be to spearhead efforts supporting SMEs across the continent.
