Rex Omar Appointed Presidential Staffer for Cultural Initiative Blackstar Experience

M N RidwanVeteran Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Rex Owusu Marfo, widely known as Rex Omar, has been appointed as the Presidential Staffer for the highly anticipated Blackstar Experience initiative.
The announcement was confirmed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The Blackstar Experience is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s flagship cultural initiative aimed at redefining and solidifying Ghana’s identity on the global stage.
The initiative seeks to enhance the country’s cultural, arts, and tourism sectors by attracting investments, creating jobs, and boosting tourism through a year-round celebration of all major entertainment, artistic, and educational disciplines.
Rex Omar, a prominent figure in Ghana’s highlife music scene, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role.
Not only is he an accomplished musician, but he is also a trained management professional with specialized knowledge in intellectual property rights, making him one of the leading authorities on the subject in Ghana.
In 2017, Rex was elected as Chairman of GHAMRO (Ghana Music Rights Organization), a role he was re-elected to serve for a second term.
He has held numerous influential positions within the music industry, including Vice President of the Copyright Society of Ghana and a member of the 2013 Committee for National Intellectual Property and Policy Strategy.
Rex Omar’s deep involvement in the creative arts sector has also led to significant roles on the political front.
He has previously advised President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the development of the country’s cultural and entertainment industries.
His extensive experience and commitment to the growth of the sector have made him a key public spokesperson for the NDC on matters concerning the creative arts.
