President Mahama Nominates New MMDCEs Across 8 Regions for Local Governance Reform

In a move aimed at reshaping local governance, President John Mahama has officially nominated a new batch of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMCEs).

This announcement was made on Wednesday, March 26, as part of the president’s constitutional duties under Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.

A total of 71 new nominees have been put forward across eight regions, pending approval by the respective local assemblies.

This new slate of leaders is seen as a strategic effort to bring fresh leadership to key administrative areas across the country.

The regions affected by the new nominations are:

  • Volta Region: 17 nominees across 18 districts
  • Oti Region: 9 nominees, covering all 9 districts
  • Ahafo Region: 6 nominees
  • Bono Region: 10 nominees, covering all 10 districts
  • Bono East Region: 9 nominees, covering all 9 districts

Notably, only eight out of Ghana’s 16 regions have received new nominations at this stage.

This move underscores the president’s commitment to ensuring strong leadership in key regions that play vital roles in national development.

The nominations come as part of Mahama’s continued push to implement effective governance at the local level.

These appointments are subject to the approval of the respective local assemblies, and the final list of confirmed MMCEs will be announced after the approval process is completed.

Local governance plays an essential role in shaping communities, and these changes could signal a new era of leadership and development in the regions affected.
