Obuasi Fire Explosion: One Feared Dead, Over 20 Cars Destroyed

A devastating fire explosion in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region has left one person feared dead, three others injured, and more than 20 vehicles completely destroyed.

The incident occurred at Bogobiri, a well-known area within the municipality, on December 13, 2024.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the explosion was caused by welding activity inside a garage.

The intense heat from the welding ignited flammable materials nearby, leading to a massive blaze that quickly engulfed the area.

The fire caused extensive damage, including the total destruction of over 20 cars parked near the site.

Firefighters arrived promptly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

Their quick response was crucial in ensuring that the fire did not reach nearby residential areas, although one person tragically lost their life and three others sustained injuries.

The injured victims have been rushed to a local hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

The GNFS has issued a public statement urging caution, advising residents and motorists to avoid the affected area.

“For the safety of all, we recommend the use of alternative routes to avoid further harm,” the statement said.

Emergency teams continue to work at the scene, carefully managing the situation to prevent any more casualties or property damage.

As investigations continue into the cause of the explosion, the community remains in shock over the tragic event.

Authorities have vowed to take steps to ensure better safety measures in areas prone to such incidents.
