In 2019, a fundraising event was organized in Washington, the USA to raise funds for the building of the National Cathedral which was well attended by some important dignitaries including President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The award-winning Gospel singer who also doubles as a clergyman based in the US performed at the fundraising event together with his crew.
Following this, it was claimed that Rockhill Church founder took $50k to perform at the event in the US.
Well, Sonnie Badu has finally broken silence on this matter, debunking the reports that he took such an amount to perform at the event.
According to him, he was never given a dime to perform at the event, adding that he was not offered a seat at the event.
Sonnie Badu said he stood at the back with his team and was later called to perform. According to him, he left the event right after his performance.
“I’m sure the handlers of @SonnieBaduuk will alert him to clear the air whether he allegedly took $50,000 for singing 5mins 15 seconds at the launch of Ghana National Cathedral in USA,” the Twitter user, @Cecil_Kwabena, tweeted.
Replying to the tweet to clear the air, the Ghanaian Gospel minister said “wow, thanks for alerting me, I was not given a dime .. not even a seat for me and my team, We stood outside“.
The Gospel singer has released a press statement to this writ.
This comes to add to many controversies surrounding the government’s decision to build a National Cathedral .
According to the NDC and other critics, the NPP government is hiding behind the project to engage in corruption.
