President Nana Akufo-Addo On Global Economy

President Akufo Addo, resist an attack made on him that the economy challenges facing the country is not limited to Ghana, it is a global phenomenon, the hardship is not only in Ghana, it is global.


The current hardship in Ghana is not about poor economic management by the government but rather instance by Covid-19 pandemic and the current Russia and Ukraine war which is beyond control of every government world wide.

There is a wide spread feeling that the economic hardship is high in the country, the inflation number being above the target that makes things more expensive and increased the cost of living.
The Majority in Parliament, recently passed the controversial E-Levy which imposes 1.5 percent tax on digital transaction which most Ghanaians are not happy passing it as a law.

President Akufo Addo speaking to BBC’s Peter Okowche Said, “The world is going through very difficult times, Ghana is no exception, Nigeria is no exception.”


He added that, ” There is no country in the world that has escaped the ravages of COVID-19, what you need to look at is the element being put on the ground that look beyond the Russia and Ukraine war.”

The economy he said, “has gone through very difficult times. I can quote statistics of the US and UK economics but they will not serve a purpose. It is a phenomenon that is going on which has made life difficult.”

“In Ghana, the recovery programme we have is very credible and that is what is going to give us the opportunity to come out of this period a stronger economy, and it is that future we are looking at,” Akufo Addo added.


President Akufo Addo is confident and assured Ghanaians that the economy will bounce back from its current challenges.
