Korle Bu Temporarily Halts Acceptance of Fresh Bodies for Six Weeks

Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has announced a six-week suspension on accepting fresh bodies and Brought-in-Dead (BID) cases as part of an ongoing refurbishment of its cold room facilities.

In a statement issued on February 3, 2025, the hospital’s management explained that the temporary suspension is necessary to enhance the hospital’s service quality and improve its facilities.

The renovation will not impact existing cases originating from KBTH itself.

“As a result, we regret to announce that we will be unable to accept fresh bodies or BID cases during this period,” the statement read.

The hospital further clarified that it will not be receiving deceased individuals from external sources during the refurbishment period.

Families of deceased individuals who have been in the hospital’s mortuary for three to six weeks or longer have been urged to make alternative arrangements.

The hospital recommended either the immediate burial of the deceased or transfer to other facilities that can accommodate such cases.

While KBTH has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by this restriction, they also called for public cooperation during this time of improvement.

The refurbishment, according to hospital officials, is expected to be completed within six weeks, ensuring that the cold room facilities are upgraded for better service delivery.

This temporary suspension comes as part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to maintain high standards and ensure the safety and comfort of all patients, staff, and visitors in the long term.
