A sexual assault lawsuit filed against music moguls Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) has been officially dismissed, according to court documents filed Friday in New York.

The lawsuit, originally filed by an anonymous plaintiff known as Jane Doe, alleged that the two men raped her in 2000 when she was just 13 years old.

The dismissal, marked “with prejudice,” means that the case cannot be brought to court again.

Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, who also represents several plaintiffs in other ongoing lawsuits against Combs, voluntarily withdrew the lawsuit, though no reason was given for this decision.

Initially, the case was filed against Combs in October 2023, and later expanded in December to include Jay-Z, who was accused of participating in the alleged assault following an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.

Jay-Z has consistently denied the accusations, calling them “frivolous, fictitious, and appalling.”

He addressed the suit in a statement through his company Roc Nation, emphasizing that the claims were baseless and unsubstantiated.

“This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims,” Jay-Z wrote.

He also expressed the emotional toll the case had on his family, saying, “The trauma that my wife, my children, my loved ones, and I have endured can never be dismissed.”

Following months of scrutiny and doubt over the credibility of the accuser, Jane Doe admitted in a December interview that she may have made a mistake in identifying the individuals involved.

In light of these inconsistencies, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres approved Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss the case, concluding that the allegations lacked credibility.

While Jay-Z is now exonerated, Sean “Diddy” Combs remains embroiled in legal turmoil, facing more than three dozen civil lawsuits for sexual misconduct, along with federal charges for racketeering and sex trafficking.

Combs, who has been held without bail since September 2024, is set to stand trial in May 2025. His legal team dismissed Friday’s ruling as expected, asserting that it would not impact the other ongoing cases.

The dismissal of the lawsuit against Jay-Z serves as a form of vindication for the artist, while the mounting legal issues for Combs indicate a much darker legal battle ahead.

The case sheds light on the intersection of celebrity, public perception, and legal accountability, as the broader conversation about justice in high-profile cases continues to unfold.
