Ghana’s Volta Region is gearing up to welcome an exciting new adventure—paragliding! The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), led by its Deputy CEO Mr. Ekow Sampson, has announced plans to introduce a paragliding festival that could become one of the biggest tourism draws in the region.
The announcement comes after a team of tourism and aviation experts, including an experienced paragliding pilot, conducted a site inspection across three scenic locations—Likpe, Amedzofe, and the Adaklu mountains.
These spots, known for their breathtaking views and elevated landscapes, were identified as ideal sites for safe and thrilling flights.
The project is being described as “ambitious and transformative” and aims to mirror the success of the popular Kwahu Paragliding Festival held annually in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
The goal is not just about creating an adventure sport but also turning the Volta Region into a top-tier tourism hotspot.
“This is about more than just flying,” said Mr. Sampson. “It’s about unlocking the rich tourism potential of the Volta Region and encouraging sustainable community development.”

Local leaders are already on board. Mr. Daniel Dzegede, Executive Director of the Volta Development Forum (VDF), warmly welcomed the team and expressed full support for the project. “This will boost business, promote culture, and attract people from around the world,” he said.
The project is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy. Hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and artisans are all expected to benefit from the influx of visitors.
Mr. Godfred Koffie, District Chief Executive of the Guan District, also pledged the district’s support and promised to help raise public awareness about the initiative.
Despite some concerns about road access and infrastructure, stakeholders remain confident. Dr. Stanley Glatey, Vice President of the VDF Tourism Committee, assured that the project would work closely with government bodies to overcome any challenges.
If all goes as planned, the maiden paragliding event could take off in December—just in time for Ghana’s busy holiday tourism season.
With its stunning scenery, welcoming communities, and a new adventure in the skies, the Volta Region is ready to soar.
